House Bill 486 (HB486) is a newly passed legislative bill with an effective date of July 1, 2019. House Bill 486, Child Sexual Abuse and Sexual Misconduct Prevention, will require all Maryland school systems to add an additional component to the applicant screening and hiring process to help ensure the safety of our students. The request for this information may take up to 20 days for PGCPS to receive, review, and prepare the applicants for hire. Effective July 1, 2019, external applicants whose position fall within the PGCEA bargaining unit, will be hired at a maximum entry level of Step 10 on the salary scale.
External applicants whose position fall within the ACE-AFSCME, Local 2250 bargaining unit, may be hired at a maximum entry level of Step 06 on the salary scale.
Effective September 5 2019, Maryland State Board of Education approved the acceptance of a 3.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) in lieu of a passing score on an approved basic skills assessment when applying for a Maryland Educator License.
